The Ottumwa Community School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Billy Strickler as the district’s Executive Director for the 2026–27 school year.
Mr. Strickler brings more than 20 years of experience in education, serving as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He currently serves as the Principal of Grant Center and District Special Education Director for Albia Community Schools, where he has demonstrated a strong commitment to student success, staff development, and the building of a positive school culture.
“We are very excited to welcome Mr. Billy Strickler to our team here in Ottumwa,” said Brad McCloskey, incoming Superintendent for the 2026–27 school year. “We had a very strong applicant pool for the Executive Director position, and after a rigorous interview process, Mr. Strickler rose to the top due to his dedication, servant leadership, and selfless service to his students and staff.”
Mr. Strickler shared the following about his appointment:
“I am excited to join the Ottumwa Community School District team and continue helping the district ‘Be the Best.’ With my background and experience, I look forward to supporting the great work already happening and helping the district continue to do amazing things for kids. Ottumwa has made a meaningful impact on its students, staff, and community in recent years, and I’m eager to build on that momentum. I am truly looking forward to meeting and working with all of the staff, students, and stakeholders of Ottumwa Schools.”
Throughout his career, Mr. Strickler has been recognized for his relationship-driven leadership style and his ability to create supportive, engaging learning environments for both students and staff. He was recently named a finalist for the 2026 SAI Elementary Principal of the Year and has served as a mentor for new principals across the state.
Mr. Strickler holds a Master’s degree in K-12 Educational Leadership from Viterbo University and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from William Penn University. His background includes extensive experience in curriculum development, special education leadership, and collaborative district improvement efforts.
Mr. Strickler will begin his role with the Ottumwa Community School District on July 1, 2026. The district looks forward to the leadership and experience Mr. Strickler will bring in supporting students, staff, and the greater Ottumwa community.
