How to Distribute Flyers
Thank you for your interest in distributing materials to Ottumwa Schools Students! Below are the steps and guidelines for flyer distribution within our district.
- Complete and submit the electronic “Permission to Distribute Flyer Form".
- Wait for confirmation from the district office before distributing. Flyers must be approved at least two weeks prior to your preferred distribution date.
- Include this statement on all flyers: “Not sponsored by the Ottumwa Community School District.”
- Paper flyers are distributed on Thursdays only.
Instructions for Physical Distribution:
- Make copies, bundle flyers, and label them by grade and section.
- Place bundles in an envelope labeled with the school name and deliver them to each building by Tuesday of the distribution week.
- Include a copy of the signed approval form with each packet, or show it to the building secretary when dropping off flyers.
- Flyers will not be distributed without the signed approval form.
Guidelines for Distribution
- Distribution supports Ottumwa youth participation in extracurricular and educational activities (sports, plays, programs, etc.)
- Materials must be from non-profit organizations; advertising and fundraising materials are prohibited per district board policy.
- For-profit organizations may only share materials promoting organized youth activities (e.g., bowling leagues)
- Flyers cannot be distributed during the first week of school or the last two weeks of school.
- Ottumwa Schools encourages organizations not to rely solely on district distribution as their primary marketing source.
Once your form is submitted, we’ll review your request and be in touch with approval or any needed revisions.

PowerSchool Database
The Ottumwa Community School District uses PowerSchool as its student information system, providing families with access to important student records and academic information. PowerSchool helps parents and guardians stay engaged in their child’s education by offering real-time access to class schedules, attendance, grades, assessment results, and teacher information.
After enrolling in the District, parents/guardians will receive an email with instructions to create a PowerSchool account. New accounts can also be created by visiting the Welcome Center. When setting up an account, use the District Code: QPDD.
PowerSchool also allows families to securely upload important student documents, including athletic physicals, immunization records, and 9th-grade dental screening forms. Documents can be submitted through the Upload Documents feature located in the Student Demographics form.
ParentSquare Communications
The Ottumwa Community School District uses Ottumwa Schools Connect, powered by ParentSquare, to keep families and community members informed about important school news, events, and updates. Strong communication between teachers and student guardians is essential to supporting student success, building partnerships, and ensuring families stay connected to their child's education.
Parents/Guardians can sign up online using their PowerSchool parent account to receive notifications and access to district communications, or download the Ottumwa Schools Connect app for convenient access on the go.
