Posted Date: 7/03/24 (8:30 AM)

Dear Ottumwa Schools Staff and Families,

It is with profound sorrow that the Ottumwa Community School District shares the tragic passing of one of our beloved students from Douma Elementary School.

Just having finished second grade, Jaxxon Cain was a cherished member of our school community. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. We are deeply saddened by this loss and are here to support our community during this difficult time.

Superintendent McGrory stated, "This is a heartbreaking moment for our school district. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family during this unimaginably difficult time. We will provide all the support necessary to help our students, staff, and families navigate through this tragedy."

As we navigate this difficult period, the Ottumwa Community School District has organized support services for both our students and staff. Our priority is to ensure that everyone who is impacted by this tragedy has access to the resources they require to cope and heal. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance during this difficult time, please call the District Office at 641-684-6597 or you may email megan.logan@ottumwaschools.com. If you feel more comfortable conversing over the phone call, via text, or chat, you may reach out to Your Life Iowa

We ask that you keep Jaxxon’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this unimaginable loss. We encourage anyone who may have questions or concerns to reach out to us. Together, we will honor the memory of Jaxxon and support one another through this heart-wrenching loss.

Sincerely,

Michael McGrory, Superintendent
