Fahrney Elementary Grand Opening Celebration a Success
The Ottumwa Community School District showcased its newest state-of-the-art facility at a grand opening celebration for Fahrney Elementary School on Monday afternoon. “This school is more than just a building—it's a beacon of opportunity and growth for everyone who walks through its halls.” Superintendent Mike McGrory stated proudly. The 55,000-square-foot building is fully functional for Bulldog staff and students, located at 520 S Milner Street.
The open house event featured an official ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as remarks from Superintendent McGrory. Guests were invited to tour the building, featuring over forty ultramodern classrooms, a full-court gymnasium, and more. In attendance were members of both the Ottumwa School Board and the Ottumwa Greater Partners In Progress, as well as students and staff, and friends of the community.
Under the administration of Principal Steve Zimmerman, Fahrney will serve southside Ottumwa students in grades 3-5. The opening of the Fahrney Elementary building at Douma Campus stands as a testament to Ottumwa School’s commitment to providing exceptional educational facilities while preserving the unique identity of our neighborhood schools with small class sizes. Its namesake, Fahrney, holds profound significance, paying homage to Helen and Charles Fahrney—remarkable individuals who dedicated their lives to Ottumwa, ensuring our children could dare to dream.
