Loss of Beloved Staff Member - Tammy Proenneke

Posted Date: 6/14/24 (1:53 PM)

Dear Ottumwa Schools Families,

With immense sorrow, I inform you of the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Tammy Proenneke. Tammy lost her life last night following a brave struggle with cancer.

Tammy was a dedicated member of our district for over three decades. She began her career with the Ottumwa Schools in 1991 as a secretary for Horace Mann Elementary and, later, Liberty Elementary. Tammy most recently served as our Family Enrollment Specialist at the District Office, playing a critical role in providing families with the resources and documentation they needed to become a Bulldog.

Tammy's loss is deeply felt by all who knew her. Tammy had a great sense of humor and was one of the most caring and compassionate individuals you will ever meet. Her compassion was illustrated through her interactions with our students and also through changing the lives of the children she and Jon fostered and adopted. She was a great employee, a wonderful person, and a friend to many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

As we mourn Tammy's passing, let us also celebrate the legacy she leaves behind. Her contributions to our district will continue to positively impact our community for years to come.

During times of grief, it is important to remember that seeking care and support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let us come together as a community to support one another and find solace in our shared memories of those we have lost.

Information about arrangements and ways to support Tammy's family can be found in her obituary and services information provided by the funeral home. Please reach out to me if you need anything.

Sincerely,

Mike McGrory

Superintendent, Ottumwa School District
